Considering google updates their phones all the time, I wouldn't be surprised if we'll start seeing all the features that you said were missing or poorly thought out pop up in an update (mostly notifications). Regarding controlling the google tv with your android phone, the next version (gingerbread, which is coming out this year), will have google tv support. And new phones are coming out all the time.
