For many businesses today video conferencing has become a crucial part of the way they conduct themselves.  A great many companies use video conferencing equipment not only to conduct meetings but to provide demos of products to clients along with training for their employees.  

However, the other advantage to using this type of equipment instead of face to face meetings is the savings a business will make.  The main ones being that they won’t have to spend money on travel expenses.  Plus of course there is the added benefit that production can continue as staff won’t need to be taken away from the office.

But what things should you be considering before you go out and purchase any kind of video conferencing equipment for your business?  In this article we take a look at the kinds of things that you will need to think about.  

1.     What do you need this equipment for?  Will it be used in relation to make presentations to others through the use of say PowerPoint?  If you are then of course make sure that the equipment has the kind of software that allows you to present the slides and any other documents you want to show to those attending.

2.    What sorts of computers will those attending be using?  This is very important thing to take into consideration before you spend money on video conferencing equipment.  Should you be using a Mac whilst the other attendees are using PC running Microsoft Windows then of course you need equipment that will be compatible with both this operating platforms.

3.    Will you be using yours to conduct brainstorming sessions or online surveys with the participants?  If you are then look for the video conferencing equipment that come with both group notepad and polling capabilities.  Through the use of the notepad all those attending can make notes on it, allowing them to contribute ideas as they come up with them plus everyone will then be able to access these from a centralized system.  Whereas when it comes to the polling capability it allows you to set questions for those participating and the data that you collect from these surveys can be access at a later date if you wish.  

By keeping in mind what we have mentioned above you should soon be able to find video conferencing equipment that meets your particular needs.  However, make sure that when you do finally start looking at the various systems to use keeps a figure in mind that you are willing to spend.

Traditionally, videoconferencing has been predominantly used by the business world. From its early development in the early 1970’s to the recent surge in interest since TANDBERG became part of Cisco, the key application for video-based communications is to enhance business decisions and add value to an organisations bottom line, usually from huge savings on travel budgets.
