Don’t worry, they won’t be able to see you. You’ll just be able to see their screens and presentations. They will be able to hear you, unless you press the MUTE button on your phone. Wear your PJs -and relax. Hope this helps…
I’m not familiar with webex, however it sounds like you can see everyone if it’s a video came conference, other than the people that don’t have video cams turned on. You can probably enter the conference with or without the video cam and chat perfectly fine.
Typically someone will be giving presentations and you will be able to see their computer screen while they do it. If they know what they are doing, you will be able to hear them through your computer speakers, but otherwise you may need to connect by phone for audio. Whether they can hear you depends whether audio is through the computer and you have a computer microphone, or if sound is by phone. But there is a pop up chat box where you can type in questions (one specifically for the presenter and another for all to see).
I have never seen a webex presentation that included web cam (even from the presenters), and do not think it has the bandwidth for that. So I doubt if they would have web cams feeding in from everyone watching the presentation. So you can rest easy.
I use WebEx all the time at work. While it’s possible for the presenter to use a webcam to enhance his presentation, usually the quality is poor and the motion flaky.
Remember that webcams are one-way. If you don’t turn yours on, no one can see you. And in WebEx, you have to enable your webcam (and most participants will holler at you if you do — it slows things down!).
It doesn’t sound like you’re the presenter. If that’s the case, you have nothing to worry about. You can actually log on, join the audio conference and walk away if you want. No one will know unless they single you out for a question or feedback.
I work from home. As a runner, I’m often at my desk in my running shorts. And no one can tell when I’m giving a presentation, because it’s all about what I’m showing on the screen (usually a PowerPoint) and saying on the audio (phone). Relax.
