Use Skype, it is the most reliable, can be made full screen, is private, and encrypted. Most any camera, I prefer the USB models, Logitech is the most popular I think, software can be downloaded, and accounts setup at
For the use you are describing you can simple use Yahoo Messenger and two webcams.
There is a substantial difference using FREE and easily available services such as web conferencing and TRUE video conferencing services. Skype, Yahoo Messenger, etc. all provide a video element to allow communications via a web cam. However, in practice using services like that AND using your computer for regular and workday environments isn’t typically practical. You may be able to use the services mentioned above if you dedicate a computer to use it soley for the mentioned task, and an old Pentium 4 computer may be suitable for your needs.
In industry terms, video conferencing actually means creating a dedicated system typically using a dedicated line (DSL or Cable may work well, but “first class” methods you mentioned use ISDN lines such as PRI’s or BRI’s, of which a BRI would be fine for you). Video equipment manufactuers such as Polycom, Tanberg and Cisco have developed desktop and FULL confencing solutions that work well depending on your budget.
If money is not an object, go for a dedicated system it is the ONLY way to develop a first class and reliable system.
