you can install up to 8gb of ram, but i wouldn’t recommend it, because if you are running xp it will only use 3gb of it. If you are using vista you can use the 8gb but it will only take advantage of 4. You can install 4 -2gb sticks = 8 gb or 4 -1g =4gb =)
You can’t install 4 sticks in a small form factor pc, plus the Dc7600 doesn’t have the power it should because of the power hungry processor it carries. I would recommend looking inside the computer on the motherboard at how many slots you have beside your one stick of RAM, I’m guessing probably only 2. I would be wary of the heat of the computer as well considering it’s small size. (Small form factors and laptops can often have problems (especially with that processor) with overheating.) You can use heatsinks on your RAM though to try and cool them a little…

There are four DIMM sockets on the system board, with two sockets per channel. The sockets are labeled XMM1, XMM2, XMM3, and XMM4. Sockets XMM1 and XMM2 operate in memory channel A. Sockets XMM3 and XMM4 operate in memory channel B.
So, it sounds like you have four slots that can be dual channeled. What you want are two PAIRED ram sets, all from the same manufacturer, all from the same lot number, if possible. Do not mix two different RAM’s or used unpaired RAM.
Now the problem is, I don’t see on the HP site telling me what KIND of ram you have.

DDR2-SDRAM DIMMs, 240 pin, unbuffered PC2-4200 533 Mhz 1.8 Volt. It supports CAS latency 4 (CL=4) for DDR2/533 Mhz.
You are LIMITED to a maximum of 1 Gig per stick, single or double sided DIMMS
This answers the question, you can have 4 Gigs of memory maximum on your computer.
If I were you, I would not try to mix HP stock memory with more new memory, but rather, buy two PAIRED RAM sets from like Corsair. Make sure they are ONLY 533 Mhz, as it appears your computer DOES NOT support DDR2 667, 800 or 1066 Mhz versions.
